Beringin Golf
Course
Kuala Lumpur,
Monday, July 2, 2001: -
RGT Sports Sdn Bhd was recently awarded
the contract to manage Beringin Golf Course, a public course in
Rawang, owned by Land & General. The
management agreement is for a period of
seven years.
"We are
very pleased to have been chosen to
manage one of the few public golf courses
in this country. Golf is one of the
fastest growing sports and, yet, there
are not enough public courses to meet
this demand. We hope to be able to
attract a lot of golfers who do not own a
club membership or those who simply want
to play another course at an affordable
fee," said Franz Swoboda, managing
director of RGT Sports.
"Junior
golfers are another of our target
markets. The number of children who are
picking up the sport is growing, brought
on no doubt by the Tiger Woods
phenomenon. Not many golf courses are
open to children and we are inviting
future Tiger Woods hopefuls to come and
play at Beringin Golf Course. We are allowing
children as young as six years to get
onto the course so long as they have
taken golf lessons and are able to
play".
Green fees are
affordably priced at RM40.00 per person,
Mondays Fridays, and RM60.00 per
person on Saturdays, Sundays and public
holidays. The buggy fee is RM50.00,
twin-sharing.
According to
Swoboda, RGT Sports decision to
venture into golf club management was a
logical one. The company, which owns the
APAG (Asia Pacific Amateur Golfers) golf
card, has a ready base of more than 4,800
members. These members will also be
allowed to play at the club, which will
help ensure a steady stream of visitors.
"Our aim in
the long term is to make golf a more
affordable sport and, at the same time,
make it more accessible to more people. I
believe we have made some headway, first
through our (APAG) golf privilege card,
which allows members to play golf for
free in at least eight clubs a month for
a minimal annual fee of RM788.00 (single
membership) or RM688.00 (joint
membership). And now, with Beringin Golf Course, we are a little closer
to achieving our aim. In addition, by
allowing children onto our course, we are
also doing our part in helping to nurture
and develop the junior golfers in this
country".
From the point
of the owners, Lembah Beringin Sdn Bhd,
the contract was given to RGT Sports in
view of their management teams
strength and experience in golf course
management. "With their appointment,
we hope to see that the public and
residents are able to enjoy a
well-managed golf course. As the owner,
LBSB will ensure that the fees remain
affordable for the benefit of the public
and residents. Already, the clubhouse
facilities have been improved upon and
are now more comfortable for the
patrons," said Muhd Najib Rawi,
chief operating officer of Lembah
Beringin Sdn Bhd.
"We also
foresee that future programs to be
organized by RGT would generate greater
interest, not only for the golf course
but the township as well".
