1. PERSKINDOL PRODUCTS
1.1 Overview
All
PERSKINDOL products have to serve the same
philosophy: they must act fast and provide a
noticable relief. For this reason all PERSKINDOL
products have to undergo intensive tests before
they can be brought to the market. It
doesnt come as a surprise, therefore, that
from the product idea until the introduction up
to three years can pass. Thanks to the intensive
testing by doctors, during everyday use and on
the sporting fields you as a consumer have the
assurance to purchase a top product.
Common
to all PERSKINDOL products is their non-greasy,
penetration assisting product base. In other
words, the products penetrate quickly and
completely without leaving any residue on the
skin. This provides for a fast efficacy and a
noticable relief without interfering with the
natural breathing of the skin.
The
PERSKINDOL products are all made of herbal
ingredients. User tests in addition attest the
products excellent skin compatability. A wide
selection of products to choose from allows for
an optimal and user-friendly usage in every
situation.
The
PERSKINDOL products are exclusively available in
pharmacies and drugstores.
1.2 INTRODUCTION TO THE YELLOW
RANGE
PERSKINDOL
(yellow range) is unique because of the dual
action "cooling/heating"!
The
effective therapy for muscles and joints
goes on cool to relieve
pain immediately
warms up fast to soothe
and relax tight muscles
increases muscle
performance by activating metabolism
promotes the healing of
injuries
penetrates quickly without
leaving a residue on the skin
Shortly
after application the special product base in
combination with menthol, the leading substance
in the peppermint oil, produces a cooling
sensation which takes the pain naturally and
without side effects. The initial cooling
sensation slowly gives way to a penetrating heat
which is caused by a selection of finely dosed,
specific essential oils.
Thanks
to the dual action cooling/heating the blood
circulation to the affected area is improved
which results in a noticable soothing of cramped
or tense muscles. Specially selected essential
oils open up the capillaries, penetrate deep into
the tissue and locally promote the healing
process. A high concentration of the salycilic
acid naturally ocurring in the wintergreen oil
has an additional, prolonged pain relieving
effect.

2. Health News
2.1 Overview
Every
fifth person suffers from rheumatic symptoms and
every sports person knows traumatic (acute) and
inflammatory injuries.
With
the following health tips wed like to give
you short and precise answers to questions
relating to muscle strains, joint pains
or sports injuries.
In
addition, you can receive free and competent
information any time from your pharmacist.
2.2 Muscle Strain
Cause
In
only 10% of cases are muscular aches and pains
the result of rheumatism. More often the problems
stem from over exertion, wrong posture, constant
pressure or light cases of traumas. Back and neck
aches, shoulder and arm pains, muscle aches and
cramps are therefore often a sign of over
exertion caused by insufficient circulation and
undersupply of oxygen to the muscle cells.
Signs
Back
aches. Pain in the lower back; lumbago or
sciatica as a sudden pain combinend in
conjunction with cramping of back muscles.
Neck
pains. Hardening and painful cramping of muscles
in neck, often resulting into headache; neck
stiffness.
Shoulder/arm
syndrome. Pain in shoulder also when lying down.
Impaired shoulder movement.
Muscle
aches. Caused by over exertion (lactic crystals).
Small tears in muscle tissue result in pain and
temporary impairment of mobility
Joint
pain caused by viral infections. Often an
accompaniment to flu with joint and muscle pain
spread over the whole body.
Treatment
Basic
requirement: neutralize oxygen and blood supply
deficiency.
Physical
therapy: improve mobility through gymnastics,
swimming, stretching, massaging.
Apply
heat with packs and soak in relaxing baths.
Improve muscle metabolism with muscle fluids,
gels, sprays which penetrate deep down.
Watch
for good physiological posture when sleeping
(neck) or working, driving, lifting of heavy
items.
A word of advice
Seek
the advice of your doctor when pain persists for
more than 7 days, sudden disorders in the
autonomic nervous system can be observed (cold
and numb hands/feet, trembling, difficulty of
breathing)or heavy pain is localized to shoulders
and hips/pelvis.
2.3 Joint Pain
There
are two types of joint pain. Each being caused
and treated differently:
2.3.1. Degenerative joint
disorders (Arthrosis, Spondylosis) Cause
Attrition
(wear) in knee, hip and back. With increasing age
the cartilage loses its elasticity, becomes
fibrous and retards. The effect is being promoted
by permanent over exertion, heavy weights, wrong
posture.
Signs
Worn
cartilage can result in painful inflammation of
joints. This in turn causes muscle strain and a
protective" posture to relieve tension
in the affected joint. This results in
insufficient supply of much needed liquids to the
cartilage. Typical for arthrosis are starting
pains which lessen as the day progresses.
Treatment
Basic
requirement: avoid over exertion, permanent
pressure, reduce over weight.
Physical
therapy: apply a therapy with little pressure,
e.g. water gymnastics, swimming.
Apply
heat and massage to relax muscles.
Nutrition:
favour vegetables in your diet as they have a
positive effect on the tissue permeability,
reduce the consumption of fats and animal
proteins.
Pain
relief: apply blood circulation promoting gels
with pain relieving substances which act directly
and locally without side effects. Treat bouts of
heavy pains with salicylate containing pain
relievers.
A word of advice
Seek
the advice of your doctor when pain persists for
several weeks or radiate down to the legs from
the spine (vertebral column). Use oral pain
relievers with caution and only as a short-term
remedy!
2.3.2 Inflammatory joint disorders
(Arthritis, Polyarthritis, Spondylitis)
Cause
Inflammation
caused by a misperformance of the immune system,
which perpetuates itself.
Signs
Slow,
partly spread over the whole body, sometimes in
bouts appearing inflammation of the joints with
visible swelling and accompanied with heavy
pains. Typical is an enduring morning stiffness.
Treatment
Physical
therapy: controlled physical therapy is very
important. Apply warmth and soak in blood
stimulating baths.
Nutrition:
choose a diet which favours wholemeal ingredients
from the bread, cereals and vegetable groups, use
little fat, no salt.
How
to inhibit acute bouts of inflammation: use
locally applied cooling and pain relieving gels
and patches. Use salicylate containing pain
relievers only temporarily.
A word of advice
If
the pain is accompanied with fever or continues
over a prolonged period of time seek the advice
of your doctor.
2.4 Sports Injuries
Cause
Sport
injuries of the traumatic type can be divided
into three groups:
2.4.1 Muscle injuries
Muscle
cramps, hardening of muscles and muscle aches are
most often caused by the intensive over use of
particular muscle groups.
2.4.2 Injuries of ligaments and
tendons
Sprains,
strains, pulled ligaments and tendons are the
result of a quick over exension of the ligaments
and tendons next to and around the joints.
2.4.3. Inflammation of tendons and
bone skin tissue
While
the irritation of the bone skin tissue is the
result of sudden force such as a hit or
collision, inflammation of the tendonds are
caused by over exertion, pressure points or wrong
technique.
Signs
All
injuries cause local pain which should be taken
as a warning signal to go easy on the affected
part. For muscle injuries typical is a general
pain which shows when the pressure is applied to
the affected area. It is often accompanied by
reduced mobility. Injuries of the ligaments and
tendons can be clearly pin-pointed. They are
often accompanied with swelling and occasional
effusion of blood. The functionality of the
joints is inhibited. Painful inflammation of bone
skin tissue and tendons show in swellings,
redness, sensation of heat and actual crackling
noises of tendons upon application of pressure.
Treatment
Remember
the word RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression,
Elevation. In other words, rest the injured limb.
Apply something cold to stop the haemorrhaging,
take the pain and reduce the risk of swelling.
Apply a compress. Elevate the injured part.
Apply
shock-cooling immediately after injuring the
limb. Use ice wrapped in a towel or use cool
sprays with pain relieving substances. Follow up
for 2 to 3 days with moderately cooling, pain
relieving gels and patches. If heavy pain
persists, anti-inflammatory oral pain relievers
can complement the topical treatment. Use oral
preparations with caution!
Exponents
in sports medicine are now in agreement, that a
prolonged cooling therapy hinders the healing
process. Therefore, after two or threes days of
cooling switch to anti-inflammatory, metabolism
promoting fluids, gels and creams.
Injuries
to ligaments and tendons should additionally be
supported with tapes to restrict mobility.
The
best prevention against sports injuries is still
the proper warm-up of muscles and joints prior to
any activity trhough stretching, jogging etc.
