SLOW PLAY

Whether it is played in a competitive or friendly environment; the game of golf should be played by the Rules :

" Play the ball as it lies "
" Play the course as you find it "
" And if you can’t do either, do what is fair "
" But to do what is fair, you need to know the RULES OF GOLF "

Slow Play, Undue Delay

Every golfer’s objective is to enjoy the game and achieve fewer strokes in a round. Slow play can trigger unpleasantness either for you, your flight mates or others on the course. So, do speed up play and always maintain the pace of play between flights.

Adoption from R&A Rules Of Golf (Rule 6-7) with regard to Undue Delay, Slow Play

The player shall play without undue delay and in accordance with any pace of play guidelines, which may be laid down by the Committee. Between completion of a hole and playing from the next teeing ground, the player shall not unduly delay play.

If you are in a Competition the Penalty is as follows:

First Offence - One stroke

Second Offence - Two strokes

For subsequent offence - Disqualification

As for Beringin Golf Course, we have empowered our Marshalls to ensure that no slow play occurs to be fair to the other players. They (Marshall) have also been given step-by-step guidelines to handle slow play situations :-

Step One:

Marshall shall regularly check the pace of play. There should not be more than one hole between the flight in front of you or behind you. If this happens, the Marshall will then advise the slow play golfer/s to speed up play.

Step Two:

If, after observing one or two holes, the golfers have not picked up pace, the Marshall shall WARN the flight and time the player/s accordingly. Allocation of time for each player to play a stroke including on the putting green is as follows : -

i) 50 seconds for first player to play.

ii) 40 seconds for second and subsequent players.

Step Three:

If slow play still exists, the players will be requested to pick up the balls and proceed to the next tee box. The Marshall has also been authorized to allow the flight behind to overtake the flight that is slow.

Step Four:

If the Marshall notices that the flight is unable to keep the pace of play even after Step Three, he shall request the flight to stop play and leave the course.

In order to achieve a fair pace of play, all golfers should adhere to the course control and this will ensure that everyone enjoys his/her game whilst at Beringin Golf Course.
